It’s Thanksgiving weekend up here in the great white North. I know, it seems early even for us.
Nonetheless, it is here and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer weekend. The sun is shining, the leaves are an array of stunning yellows, oranges and reds, the air has the cool crispness that only Autumn can produce and my house smells like fresh baked apple crumble and pumpkin pie.
Dinner this year will be a small affair with just the four us and in all honesty, I’m more thankful for that than anything else. It’s never been just the four of us for Thanksgiving dinner and it’ll be a nice change of pace. We’re still going all out with a Roast Beast (Translation: Beef), all the fixins and two desserts. There just won’t be a need to cook nearly as much and cleaning up after will be merely routine instead of an arduous chore.
Don’t get me wrong, I love our extended family and usually revel in the opportunity to cook for the hoarde – the cleaning up after though, not so much. So, I wasn’t terribly disappointed by the news that my Dad will be hanging out with my sister and her family while Hubby’s parents are away for the long weekend.
A quiet long weekend, a great meal and just the four of us.
That’s a lot to be thankful for…and I am. 😀
