Man of the House

And he doesn’t even live here anymore.
I was moved, chuffed and proud as punch when he arrived and offered to shovel the walk and driveway. I told him he didn’t have to but he wouldn’t hear it and said, “Really Mom, I don’t mind, it’s the least I can do in return for a home cooked meal.”
Whaaaa???? Who are you and what have you done with the angry teenager that used to sigh heavily and quip, “Fine, if I have to” ?
Nevermind, I like you better anyway. 😀
Believe me, it was no easy task either.
See! He shoveled while snow fell and blew all around him and he kept shoveling until the job was done. And when Hubby got home to a cleared driveway and walkway, it’s hard to say who was prouder when I told him that Son offered to do it.
“Our Son, really? Wow.”
When you have a rough time with a child during their teen years and into their early adulthood, it’s difficult to suss whether or not they have “gotten” all you tried to teach them. You hope for the best of course and love them regardless.
Still, it’s really encouraging to see them take on responsibility purely out of kindness.
