Summer is Here

June 8, 2011 § 6 Comments

On the weekend we cleaned up the deck, organized the furniture in the gazebo and opened the pool.  I also got a new deck Gnome, though he is still at the moment nameless.

And as though it were on ceremony to welcome the gods of summer, this week we get our first heat wave.  Yesterday the humidex reached 34C  (93 F for my Imperial friends) and this afternoon the actual temperature will reach that with a humidex of 43C  (that’s 109.4 F).

They’re predicting 40% chance of thundershowers for the next 24 hours but I’m not holding my breath.  Last time they called for thunderstorms we got a tiny little kaboom and only about 15 minutes of downpour.  The power didn’t even go out.  That is not my idea of a rockin’ thunderstorm. 😉

In any case, it’s too hot to sit outside and enjoy my deck and the pool is still not quite ready (ph balance or something Hubby says) to swim in.  So, it’s inside with the curtains closed and the fans on just puttering about.  I must say though, between all the rain during the spring and now the heat, I am getting a lot of little things done around the house.

The long ago forgotten projects that were less important then are now getting done.  Changing a few outlet covers, hanging new curtains, purging boxes and boxes of old toys, games and clutter.   None of it seems like much at the time (except the Lego…it’ll be awhile before I want to even look at Lego) but I’m starting to notice the slowly evolving upgrade from a family home with two small children to a family home with just one teen.

I must say that I’m liking it, a lot!  😀

Laying The Past to Rest…Literally

June 6, 2011 § 5 Comments

This was not an easy decision to come by.  I’ve wrangled with myself for months, actually years, on this issue.  Like so many other “relationships” in my life it is becoming ever clearer that this one I should not keep trying to breathe life into.

At least for now anyway.

So I’ve tied it all together in pretty pink string with my favourite sketch on top deciding to put it away until I’m ready to finish it.

I’m not really discouraged by this because I have a ton of other ideas I want to explore, other stories I want to write and I believe that I’ll have an easier time exploring them if I put this old one aside.

Call it a metaphor.  😉

When All Is Set to Order

June 2, 2011 § 4 Comments

Lately, it’s been often occurring to me
These attempts at better I be

This laying down of ideals as a path unto itself
This saying out loud that I am not yet happy with myself

But once I am, once I am truly self-assured
When all is set to order, when the past I truly lay to rest

What will become of me?
What will I look toward when I’m done looking within?

Once I am, once I am confident in my own goodness
When all is set to order, when I’m willing to live my truth

What will become of me?
What challenges will manifest once I’ve met mine?

What will become of my house and gardens,
Painstakingly decorated, when it comes time to move on
What will become of all the things I left undone

When all is set to order
What will become of me?

Project 2011 – Week Twenty-Two

June 2, 2011 § 4 Comments

As always, a shout out to Cate @ Moments of Whimsy for hosting this sharing of support and encouragement for our goals/resolutions for 2011.  We are fast approaching the midway point with only a month left before week twenty six and frankly it’s quite the feeling of accomplishment to still just be participating.

It’s been a roller coaster ride so far of gains and setbacks, of re-evaluating and changing goals and mostly trying to keep at the forefront the importance of sticking with it no matter how it’s going. This week has been one of my best yet and I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead with hope and determination that I really can do this.

Of course, I have very little doubt that this sharing of progress and the exchange of encouragement has much do with it.  So thank you ladies, for your kind words, woohoo’s and way to go’s.  They’ve made all the difference.

Onto my goals…

1) More physical activity was the order of the week and most of it was actually fun.  I didn’t think about it too much, I just puttered in my garden, went to the park with Daughter a couple of times and worked out on the bike when I felt like it…which was twice.  I could, and eventually want to, be doing more but for me this was a good start.  I also ate better, cutting back on empty calories and choosing more raw foods and toward my summer goal, I lost 4lbs.  Let’s see if I can keep it up when it drops down to only 2lbs a week and I have to work twice as hard for it.

2) Nothing yet on the novel front but I’ve decided that until I’m finished with Daughter’s scarf, there’s no point in doing more than think about it.  I can’t knit and type at the same time and right now the promise I made to my kid means more to me.

3) I guess eating better counts for being kind to myself?  That’s all I got.

4) I’m thrilled to say that I’m in the home stretch for finishing Daughter’s scarf.  It’s taken a total of 15 months to finally finish it but I’m confident that by next week’s post, it’ll be a pic of Daughter modeling it.  I don’t know who is more excited, her to have it or me to be done with it.  😉

5) Everything is still alive! Hehehe.  Yep, both my veggie and flower gardens are doing wonderfully. The few tulip bulbs that actually sprouted under my tree, despite looking a little sparse, are nonetheless tall and strong.  My planters look pretty brightening up the yard and all my house plants are strong and green.  I shouldn’t take all the credit though, I think the Gnomes have something to do with it.   😀

Can’t wait to do the tour and see how you all are doing this week.
