Changing Direction

September 27, 2011 § 2 Comments

I’m not sure where I’m going to go with this blog.  It’s been pretty dead here lately.  Since I’m reluctant to just give it up altogether I thought I’d change direction a little bit and use this space to at least write a weekly update for myself.

Anyway, since my 40th is fast approaching, I thought I’d give myself a bit of a shove and give another go at losing some of the extra weight I’ve put on in the last few years.

My goal is to lose 25lbs in 8 weeks (by my birthday) and along the way be more consistent with healthy food choices, increase my physical activity and be more focused on accomplishment rather than merely intent.  It’s nice that I really want to, but until I actually start doing I’m not really making progress.

Anyway, my check in day will be Tuesday but I doubt very much I’ll be writing here otherwise.  At least, until the 8 weeks are up.

Take care all!  See you next week.

Project 2011 – Week Thirty-Eight

September 22, 2011 § 2 Comments

I don’t know if anyone else is still hanging on out there but I’ll keep at ‘er anyway.  Requisite hat tip to Cate@ Moments of Whimsy for starting us out on this journey to share and encourage each other in our goals and resolutions for 2011.

Hard to believe there’s only 14 weeks left in the year.  With goals changing like the seasons and missing a handful of posts along the way, I can’t say I’ve been as consistent as I would have liked.

Nonetheless, on this latest goal anyway, I’m doing quite well.  Last week’s muslin prototype bootie made a great pattern for this week’s plaid prototype.

Not to shabby eh? A little more refined than the last one.  I’m definitely happier with this style but I still have some work to do before I can say I’ve perfected the design. One thing for sure though, they’re as comfy as all get out and I can easily forget I’m even wearing it.

Hubby’s already pointed at my foot and asked, “What’s with the one boot?”  Oops!

If anyone is still out there reading this blog, thanks and I hope you have a great weekend.  😀

Two Days By Myself

September 21, 2011 § Leave a comment

No doubt I miss you
No second guessing my ability

To do for myself when you aren’t around to do it for me
I really like this marriage thing, especially

When after two days by myself
I can think of nothing else

But how much I miss having you around
How your presence keeps me on solid ground

While I’m floating about in the clouds
While I’m flitting away on fancies

Sure, I could have to spend every minute in the mundane
I could have to spend my time making sure I stayed in sane

Every second of every hour of every day
But two days by myself

And I’m loving you even more than before
Because I’m more keenly aware of what it’s like

To hang out with me
After two days by myself

Some many years ago, too long ago to exactly recall
I wrote myself a note for my 40th Birthday

Not long now, the day I declared fast approaches
And ever faster the memory encroaches

I know exactly what it says

I can’t recall the day or even year I wrote it
But inside that envelope are words I need to “hear”

I know I haven’t come close

To doing all the things I had thought I aught to
By now

I know I’m no where near

Achieving the hopes I had for family
By now

I didn’t always make good, I sometimes didn’t do right
I’ve both done and not done things that I deeply regret

But I’ve done amazing things I never even thought I would try
I’ve accomplished once out of reach goals I was scared to set

I know exactly what it says

Wow, September is Almost Gone!

I can’t believe how quickly the last few weeks have flown by.

Definitely feels like we’re picking up speed on a roller coaster year.  It’s not like I actually feel like I’ve done a whole lot but so many projects and goals that were over a decade in the making are finally done and achieved.

Maybe that’s what happens when you decided to do instead of just blog about.  😛

I’m mostly talking about home renovations; opening the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, getting the deck finished, completing the main bathroom renovations and removing the paneling from the den. Not necessarily in that order.

Also, in the last year, we’ve gotten rid of rooms full of furniture, boxes of old toys, clothes, books and miscellaneous household items by either giving them away to family and friends or donating them to local charities.

It’s quite liberating actually.  Not everything is so easy to part with mind you and I’ve had my moments where it’s taken me several trips to the give away box just to let go of one item.  For the most part though, I’m okay to let go of things knowing someone will make better use of them than I did.

Other than that the pool is now closed and, for us, that typically signifies the “OFFICIAL” end of summer. Never mind that it’s actually been a couple of weeks since it’s been warm enough to swim. 😀

Used to be that this was the time I started thinking about Thanksgiving and Hallowe’en. Yes, in that order. I’m Canadian remember?

This year though, because we’re going out for dinner for Thanksgiving – to a restaurant no less, a first – and have kids much too old for Trick or Treating, I’m moving right ahead to ponder my upcoming birthday.  The big 4 0 this year.

I haven’t decided how I feel about it exactly as I seem to be bombarded by very mixed emotions.  So much so that I can’t quite find the words to describe them.  Ah who knows, maybe it’ll all come out in a poem.

Hubby leaves tomorrow afternoon for a business trip and won’t be home until Friday evening. It’s just going to be Daughter and me for three whole days and nights.  Woohoo!  Girly time.

Hope everyone has a great week.  😀

Project 2011 – Week Thirty Something

September 15, 2011 § 4 Comments

I really don’t know what week we’re in now…it’s either 36 or 37.  My bad.  Despite that lapse and lack of desire to go back and actually count, I do have progress to report.

The first fabric prototype of the boots I’ve been working on is finally finished.

And here’s how it looks on my foot…

I love how it has a medieval look and feel.  Of course there are a few adjustments required but I know exactly what I want to do and where.  I’ll make another prototype with the changes and then start designing the pattern.

I’m actually quite excited.

That might also be in part because of the store front opportunity I came across today.  But that’s for another post.

Hope you’re all doing well with your goals and resolutions.  😀

Where Does The Time Go?

September 14, 2011 § 3 Comments

Wow, only two posts in two weeks. How very unusually understated of me.  Hehe.

Really, I just haven’t had much to say. Now that summer is finally winding down there’s lots of fall chores that need doing.  Not that I’ve made a dent in those yet, I’m just sayin’.  😛

This weekend we’re closing the pool.  😦  It hasn’t got much use in the last couple of weeks and the weather’s not getting any warmer so it makes sense.

Our gardens are giving up the last of their yield and I’ve been canning and freezing as much as I can.  Though, I just opened the freezer and realized I won’t fit much else in there.  Still, it’s satisfying to see so much food, we grew ourselves,  that we’ll have for the weeks and months to come.  What ever we can’t eat now will have to be given away to family and friends.

I’m working on a list of movies that I want to see so I’m not “uh, ummm, I think, I don’t know”ing when Hubby says he’s stopping by the video store and asks if there’s anything I want him to get.  Seriously, it happens ALL the time and I’m finally going to take action.  Go me!  Besides, any excuse to write a list eh.  😉

Really, not much else going on here. Oh! I did finally manage (after 3 years of procrastinating) to get the paneling down in the den. Even better is that the wall underneath may in fact be salvageable after all.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope everyone out there is doing well.  Later!

Why Is A Woman The Scariest Creature on Earth?

September 1, 2011 § 8 Comments

Because she’s the only one that can bleed for 5 days straight and live.

I can’t remember who the comedian is that wrote that joke but it’s hilarious and totally true.

If you can’t see where this is going then you’re probably a man and I give you fair warning. The remainder of this post will be about menstruation.  There, now go get a beer and turn on the game.  😉

It hurts, I’m exhausted, it’s gross
I ache, I’m grouchy, I just want to be alone

I hide under covers and ignore the phone
Chocolate is good, wine is better

I think I’ll write my mother a letter

It hurts, I feel sad, I’m crying at nothing
I can’t get comfortable, I hate being a woman

I’ve ruined another set of sheets and clothing
Chocolate is good, wine is better

I think this time I’ll write God the letter

What kind of cruel joke is this?  Because I’m NOT laughing.

Where Am I?
