Thinking Out Loud

I’m turning 45 this year.
Wow!

I painted my toenails
Never cared before now

About taking a good selfie
I never learned quite how

WeekendatKirs17th
I find myself contemplating
How much of life is just for show

Going on thirty years a parent

And I have only recently figured out
That while we look behind us for guidance

It’s our children that teach us
What we really need to know

I’m turning 45 this year.

Happy Spring

And throughout the land
A collective sigh was felt
Sprouting daffodils

It’s still pretty chilly here and it’s not quite warm enough to get out and do yard work. Sure is nice to see the grass and the sun again though. In the meantime, I’ve been busying myself with making a few decorations in honour of Spring and the upcoming Easter weekend.

Middle of winter
Stuck indoors for weeks on end
Pulling my hair out

No One Decides

January 8, 2015 § 3 Comments

No one creature is capable of ruling all of creation
We are a conglomerate, a cooperation, a living and breathing dream

Let’s stop shooting ourselves in the foot with downplaying
Let’s stop shooting each other in the face out of ignorance

No one decides the outcome of a war
No one decides the truth we all fight for

We are a grand collective, a global village,
And more than capable

Let’s stop dumbing down our children with lies being sold as truth
Let’s stop feeding them that happiness rests in eternal youth

No one person is able to bear the brunt
When society, as a whole, goes mad

We are a conglomerate, an esoteric union
When parts of us fail, we should be sad

Let’s stop fucking killing each other for no damn good reason
Really?  A cartoon!

Under Winter’s Blanket

January 6, 2015 § 2 Comments

Jan515
Spring sleeps dreaming
Of promised blooms, of making room

For bigger, stronger and more bright
Breathing in the dark while waiting for the light

Soaking in the chill while assured that warmth is waiting
No need for wanting or hoping or faithing

It just is and Spring sleeps knowing
Under Winter’s blanket

She Touches My Shoulder

August 6, 2014 § 2 Comments

How easily I forget her…

While I worry about how I will take care of my father
While I work at making a happy union with my husband
While I ache not knowing the whereabouts of my son

She touches my shoulder
Gently, so unobtrusive
Reminding me that she’s still waiting

I’m ashamed about how easily I forget her
She deserves so much better

While I self medicate against a horrific past
While I am only here in the now half the time
While I make my life’s work overcoming

She touches my shoulder
Sweetly, and smiles
Reminding me that I once was her

Waiting for my mother to love me
As much as them

Waiting for my mother to know
How much I loved her

I can give her what I didn’t have
But I don’t know how to start

She touches my shoulder
Nudging me into wakefulness
Reminding me that it’s not too late

All Ends

May 16, 2014 § Leave a comment

Spring took its sweet time this year
Life gets restless under relentless
So easy to give over to irrational fear

I’ll never see the grass again I whined
So caught up in looking at the ground
I couldn’t see the sun when it shined

I’ll never be warm again I’d bemoan
Consumed by the chill in the air
And absorbing it into my willing bones

Waiting for an end is a great way to ignore a potential beginning
Lamenting about losing is a great distraction from focusing on winning

Or even trying for that matter

All ends are merely markers
For where something else started

This poem is dedicated
To all my dearly departed

Whom, if were here at this moment
Would slap me silly for such self-indulgence
